Dry Needling

Dry needling is a targeted treatment technique used by trained physiotherapists to relieve muscle pain, reduce tension and improve movement.

Fine, sterile needles are inserted into tight or overactive muscles (trigger points) to release tension, reduce pain and restore normal muscle function. This technique helps reset muscle activity, improve local blood flow and support the body’s natural healing response.

At Power Potential, dry needling is used as part of a comprehensive treatment approach alongside manual therapy, movement correction and rehabilitation to address the underlying cause of pain or dysfunction.

Why It Matters for You

Muscle tightness and trigger points can contribute to pain, restricted movement and altered muscle function. Dry needling can help to:

  • Reduce muscle tension and pain
  • Improve flexibility and range of motion
  • Restore normal muscle activation patterns
  • Decrease referred pain from trigger points
  • Support recovery and improve movement quality

What to Expect During Your Session

  • Assessment to determine if dry needling is appropriate for your condition
  • Treatment performed by a qualified physiotherapist using sterile, single-use needles
  • A brief twitch, ache or pressure sensation during treatment (normal and temporary)
  • May be combined with manual therapy, exercise and movement rehabilitation
  • Mild post-treatment soreness may occur for 24–48 hours

Is Dry Needling Right for You?

Dry needling may be beneficial if you:

  • Experience muscle tightness, knots or trigger point pain
  • Have restricted movement or muscle stiffness
  • Are recovering from a muscle or soft tissue injury
  • Have ongoing neck, back or shoulder tension
  • Need additional support alongside physiotherapy or rehabilitation
